Buongiorno from Italy!

Italy is one of the places I was really looking forward to visiting. There was so much to see:

The first city I visited was Rome. Ancient Rome was a powerful empire around 2,000 years ago. It is amazing to see some of the ruins from their old buildings.

Here is the Palatine Hill where the rulers of Rome lived.

I also saw the Colosseum, where the Gladiators fought.

Rome contains Vatican City which is the center for the Catholic Church. I visited the Sistine Chapel which was painted by Michelangelo. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take pictures, but I did get a picture of one of the rooms painted by Raphael.

Vatican city also has Saint Peter’s Basilica. It is the largest church in the world.

The last thing I saw in Rome was the Trevi fountain. The tradition is to throw a coin over the shoulder into the fountain to ensure you return to Rome. I threw in several coins just to be sure.

From Rome I traveled to Florence. Florence is a beautiful city that is fun to walk around in. I saw Michelangelo’s David statue, but I was not allowed to take pictures. It was an amazing statue. Here is a view of Florence from a nearby hill. You can see the Duomo, the large domed church in the center, which is a famous landmark in Florence.

Pisa is close to Florence so I had to make a trip to see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.

My next stop is Venice, the city famous for canals. I loved going on a gondola ride.

My last stop in Italy was Cinque Terra. The five towns in Cinque Terra are all connected by a train and hiking path. As you can see the view was gorgeous.

I loved Italy. There was so much to see. I am glad I threw a coin into the Trevi fountain so I can return someday. Oh, one more thing. I ate spaghetti and pizza!

I saw Westminster Abbey.

I really liked Buckingham Palace and the guards.

I played with other children in the Princess Diana memorial fountain in Hyde Park.

Finally, I saw the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens. This was the park where the author of Peter Pan, J. M. Barrie, met the children who became the inspiration for the lost boys.

My legs were tired after all of the walking. I cannot wait until tomorrow so I can do more sightseeing.
