Hola from Spain!

My travels in Spain started in Madrid, the capital. The center of the city, Puerta del Sol, was very crowded but exciting.

My next stop in Spain was Sevilla. Sevilla is known for bull fighting and old Spanish buildings. Sevilla was the capital of Spain when King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella supported Christopher Columbus’ voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, accidentally discovering the American continents. The royal palace and gardens are still in great shape. Here is a view of one of the plazas outside of the palace.

After Sevilla, I headed to the Mediterranean Sea. The next picture was taken in Tarifa. The water on the horizon is the Atlantic Ocean. The water on the left in the picture is the Mediterranean Sea. You can also see the harbor where the ferries traveling to Morocco in Africa dock. The African continent is visible from where I was standing, but outside of this picture toward the left. I cannot believe Africa is only 7 miles away!

Working my way up the Mediterranean coast of Spain, I visited Valencia. The mixture of old and new buildings was impressive. I really liked the old gate to the Medieval city. Most cities used to have walls in Medieval times to protect the people from attackers.

While in Valencia I got to watch Spain win the World Cup. The city had a giant screen set up in a park so everyone could watch the game together. Everyone started cheering and singing when the winning goal was scored in extra time!

My last stop in Spain was Barcelona. I saw many interesting buildings including the Barcelona Cathedral and the fountain in Parc de la Ciutadella.

My favorite food in Spain was the tapas. Tapas are small portions of food so you get to order multiple plates and share with friends.

I will miss Spain, but I am excited for my next destination, France!
